S. D. Lee 2020

We are pleased to announce the 2020 Stephen D. Lee Institute will be held February 28-29, 2020, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Our host hotel for the event is the Embassy Suites Brier Creek/Raleigh Durham Airport in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The Stephen D. Lee Institute, now in its fifteenth year, is one of the best programs the SCV has for spreading the truth about our Confederate Heroes is the Stephen D. Lee Institute which annually assembles some of the best minds in the South to discuss important issues about our Southern Heritage.

  • Our faculty for this year’s event will include:
  • Dr. Marshall DeRosa.A familiar name to students of the American Constitution, Dr. DeRosa received his Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Houston and his B. A. from West Virginia University, Magna Cum Laude.
  • Dr. Carey Roberts. Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA, Professor Roberts earned a M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina and a B.A. from the University of Southern Mississippi. He also studied International Relations at the University of Wales-Swansea (Prifysgol Abertawe) in the United Kingdom.
  • Dr. Jeffrey Addicott is Professor of Law and Director of the Warrior Defense Project at St. Mary’s School of Law. He spent 20 years on active duty as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps, and five years as a senior legal adviser to the U.S. Armed Forces.
  • Dr. Samuel W. Mitcham, Jr. Born in Mer Rouge, Louisiana, Dr. Mitcham attended Northeast Louisiana University, North Carolina State University and the University of Tennessee, where he received his Ph.D. He is a Visiting Professor at the United States Military Academy, West Point.

  • Dr. John Devanny has taught history, literature, and economics for twenty-five years, and has nearly thirty professional publications and presentations to his credit. Dr. Devanny received his bachelor’s degree from Mount Saint Mary’s College, and his master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of South Carolina. His areas of concentration in both research and teaching are history and literature.
  • Walter D. "Donnie" Kennedy.A native of Mississippi, Donnie, along with his brother Ron, is the author of numerous books and articles on the War for Southern Independence. The Kennedy Twins are best known for their book The South Was Right! Having sold over 140,000 copies (as of 2019), The South Was Right! has become a favorite among those seeking a truly Southern view of the War for Southern Independence. Donnie currently serves as Chief of Heritage Operations for the SCV.
